On the 27th of January 2023, Zoi conducted the Symphony Orchestra of the Municipality of Athens and the Choir of the City of Athens in the opera "Protomastoras" by Manolis Kalomimiris (1883-1962) - one of the most important Greek composers, the so-called "leader" of the Greek National School.
"Protomastoras" is a musical drama in two parts and an Intermezzo (concert performance).
Manolis Kalomiris (1883-1962) was one of the greatest Greek composers, the so-called "leader" of the Greek National School. The "Protomastoras" (The Master Builder" ) was his first opera based on the folk of the Bridge of Arta and the homonymous libretto by Nikos Kazantzakis.
An opera rich in symbolism on a political, cultural and ideological level, The Protomastoras was first performed in 1916. It is a timely work, reflecting the era in which it was composed, an era of much upheaval and turmoil in relation to what is happening today. And it remains timeless largely because of its quality, say Zoi.
